Tracking 427 bills proposed during Prayuth's Second Government, my studio and partner analyzed the actions and durations of each bill to gauge our MPs' performance as representatives. This data aims to assist voters in making informed choices in the next election. The project also offers open access for data downloads, serving various purposes.
The main visualization is designed to be simple, using squares to represent bills, colors for categories, filled patterns to indicate status, and a triangular corner to differentiate pre- and post-parliament stages. While I initially anticipated a straightforward design, creating an efficient controller and sorting filter proved more complex than anticipated. User testing revealed that while users could eventually locate what they needed, some aspects led to slower navigation. This project is undergoing a redesign as part of the Parliament Watch, set to launch with two other projects by the end of 2023.
I am pleased that this project has been useful for others, particularly journalists and policymakers seeking reference information. Moreover, it was mentioned by a representative of the Moving Forward party in a national assembly meeting as a source of data highlighting the number of failed bills in this government. It is rewarding to see this project exceed my initial expectations.
