The client, Equitable Education, aims to address intergenerational privilege in Thai education, which is often inherited and passed down through generations. Parents with limited education tend to have lower incomes, making it difficult to afford their children's education expenses. This situation contributes to a higher dropout rate, creating a cycle that repeats in the next generation. However, an equity-based education solution involves investing in these children, helping them re-enter the educational system, and contributing to the nation's economic growth.
The tone of this data story is academic and truthful, so the design is clean and modern, with geometric shapes. I use the shape of ladder steps to represent the steps in overcoming the gap in generations to reach higher education, and I add illustrations to make it more audience-friendly. The main color palette is derived from the client's brand identity, which I adapted for my design. Most of the charts are SVG files that I created using Google Sheets and Figma, except for the transition of dots below, which was created by the developer following my design. Additionally, there is a video animation version of this project that I created using After Effects for a presentation prior to launching the website.
Finishing this project took longer than expected, but it taught me how to adapt flexible elements across different mediums. Initially, I designed for the website only, but when requirements changed, I had to transfer the elements to another program and animate all of the charts. This was a challenge, but it made me more aware of potential obstacles and better prepared for future projects.
