Most of us have given or received a greeting card during the holiday season or any other time of the year. They might seem like just an everyday object in our lives. But what about the greeting cards collected by design museums, like the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum? What do they look like? What makes their designs special? And what makes them memorable? That’s kind of question is a staring of this project.
This final project for the Fall 2024 semester explores the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum's greeting card collection using its API. The dataset includes items categorized under "Greeting Cards." I analyzed and categorized occasions and design elements based on titles, descriptions, and manual observations of card visuals. Additionally, I used the Vibrant.js library to extract dominant colors, uncovering trends and patterns.
The project also features interactive elements, allowing users to filter cards by their preferences and potentially share their selections in the future. These features aim to enhance user engagement and summarize design insights.
