"Road accidents is beyond personal tragedies, it is a call to enhance road safety for all" This is the key message of this project. The client of the project is Thailand Future Foundation, An evidence-based policy platform, who aims to highlight the problem and recommend policies for the future. While accidents are often attributed to human error, it is important to recognize that unsafe roads contribute to a significant number of fatalities.
In terms of art direction, I focused on visual elements associated with road accidents, such as the darkness of night, yellow signs, and car spotlights. These elements were incorporated into the color palette and visualizations. The visual story was developed through storyboarding and translated into easy-to-understand visuals, using icons inspired by street signs. Various charts were combined to create a cohesive and unique look. For instance, a circular hexagon tile map with varying dot densities illustrate the accident density in each province. This approach was necessary due to the lack of specific location data in the aggregated provincial data. In the final section, the policy recommendations were presented in a more user-friendly manner, with added gimmicks and photos. Additionally, readers were provided with the option to share a link with an OG image showing the number of accidents generated by their selected provinces, making the story more relatable.
During the Outliner Data Visualization Conference 2022, this project was mentioned by Punch up CEO, Thanisara Ruangdej, who worked with me as a data storyteller on this project. Thanisara also served as a speaker on a panel discussion titled "Communicating with Data to Help Us Have a Safer Life." As a designer involved in this project, I am proud to have contributed to a data story that has the potential to improve our lives.
